Same efficiency as yesterday. Ready to go at 8am, got on the bus around 8:40, drive 40 minutes to Salone, hung out in the IBL until around 11am, toured until 1:30, had lunch and then the 4 of us took the Metro back into Milan. We all crashed with the intent of dinner at 8pm.
Yesterday was contract furniture, today was lousy residential stuff – I was completely bored. At one of our stops, I saw an interesting showroom that was across from where we were supposed to be. It was amazing exercise bikes and also a model to use your bike on a trainer. The exercise bikes were €12,000 and were gorgeous. The owner is originally from Canada, had been in Italy for 30 years, and he noted that the bikes are being bought in the UAE and similar, along with being put on yachts.
When we were heading to the Metro I realized I lost my black baseball cap when moving stuff into and out of my backpack, so I looked online for stores selling ‘cappellini baseball’ and found one 2 blocks away. The hat was so discolored inside that it was clearly time for a new one. It’s a shop that does logos and embroidery on various items, including caps, so I headed over and walked in while he was working with another customer. He asked me to wait outside, which I did for 15-20 minutes, finally stuck my head in and asked if he had black caps, he said yes. I continued to wait then stuck my head in again and asked in Italian how many minutes did he think it would be. So, here’s the deal, I didn’t get crazy waiting – wow! – although I was a bit confused as to why there was this delay. The customer finally left, the guy was really nice and said he typically meets with people on an appointment basis, and we then spent 15 minutes deciding which cap looked best on me. I was wearing my Bianchi bike cap, so then we had a conversation about his brother who was close to become a pro racer until he broke his leg. Total fun!
Miranda WhatsApp’d me and had found two places for dinner, and I focused on one of them, Pizza Shambò, that looked cooler – it wasn’t actually the case in real life but good anyway. Miranda and Marc had gone for a drink at the other StarHotel across the street – the one we were in was StarHotel Milano Anderson – and we all met in the lobby at 8pm and walked to the place. It was a very simple sidewalk café that also made great pizza – including one that was purple and called Pizza Viola (purple). We had a great time, laughing, drinking two bottles of wine (not including Craig’s white wine), completely cracking up. I got so much shit for not eating the crust and I offered it to anyone else who wanted it. As is typical, we each had one pizza and did some sharing.
Craig is a very mellow and cool guy with a 30-person firm in Miami that focuses on public work – I will try to emulate his vibe in sync with my new attitude - and he is friends with Jaime Canaves - an old friend of mine. Mirands shared that she gets back on Saturday to LA, then is going on a week-long camping trip Sunday with boyfriend, his son and other family – ah, youth and total energy!
Everyone returning to the US today and Sunday was focused on getting the COVID testing necessary to enter the US after being abroad, and Salone had a testing facility that they used. At dinner, Miranda shared that the requirement ends Sunday, so I don’t have to be concerned about it – yay!
