Wednesday - Day 42

Today was a lot of Italian! I had my typical 2-hour class and a one-hour one-on-one class with Mara – so three hours of actually speaking Italian – whew. I had been feeling frustrated earlier in the week as it seemed that two of the Germans were way ahead, but it was not the case today. I was able to understand all the conversation (everything was in Italian from teacher and students), learned that our teacher speaks Japanese, Hebrew, Spanish, English and French. She lived in Japan for a year teaching Italian to the Japanese, and can also write in Japanese. She also has perfect command of the class, straight posture like a model and a wonderfully engaging smile.

After my 11-1 class I had lunch with a classmate, Yana, who is the vascular surgeon from Cologne, then to the Accademia to see David. I have easily walked into all the other museums I’ve visited, but Accademia was packed with lines down the block on both sides of the street – and it was super hot. When I couldn’t get in, I walked home and my shirt was sopping wet.

After my 2nd lesson I walked home through Piazza della Signoria and stopped for an Aperol spritz at Café Revoire and did some great people watching. The drink came with some lovely appetizers, including octopus, pesto cream, olives and fried bread – delightful. Then home to chill (literally) with the A/C.

26 May – Day 43
Italian, then bus to N&M for lunch, bus back to Parola for one-on-one lesson with Mara, then walk home after stopping at the supermarket and getting sushi for dinner. Molto caldo (hot).
