Went to my neighborhood café for my cioccolato caldo e una cornetta (croissant) and then took the vaporetto to the island of Murano which is known for its glass. First I checked out of the apartment and took the water bus to the main train station to leave my luggage there. Murano is so much quieter than Venezia and I just spent my time wandering the streets. I went into the Church of Saint Peter Martyr where there are two Bellini pietas and a Bellini Last Supper fresco. Just across a canal from the church I had passed a great place for lunch with white tablecloths in a lovely piazza (with umbrellas), so that was my spot to relax and enjoy.
In Firenze this evening I was attending an 8:30pm dinner event by InterNations, a global organization focused on working with expats wherever they go, and my original train would get me into the main train station at 8:30, with my heavy backpack. I was ready to head back to Firenze, so hopped on the vaporetto, went back to the train station, changed my tickets for a much earlier train, picked up my luggage, came into Campo di Marte, and soon headed out for dinner at Trattoria Marione.
I got to the place, asked for the InterNations group, they had no idea but thought it might be a group on the lower floor. I headed there, sat down, started talking with a bunch of Americans, realized it wasn’t my group, came back upstairs and said it wasn’t them. The staff directed me to their other Marione ristorante about 80 meters away, went there, and they had no idea about the group dinner either. I was frustrated, headed back to the first place that had the address I was given, and found the small group right next to where I was talking with staff – oy vey. Met some nice people and headed back somewhat late after a nice dinner.
