I was up around 7:30 and my class was not until 11, so I used the washing machine for the first time. There is no dryer in most apartments and the clothes are dried on racks outside, but today was forecasting some rain midday so my racks are set up inside. I’m really enjoying my class and there is a good group of people that continue to entertain. Most of them are studying grammar in the morning, but I’ve been doing that for much of the year and am more focused on the conversation. Our teacher today I think is the head of the school, and almost all the directions and information from him are in Italian – way cool.
I was going to have lunch with Nan and a friend, but Nan was not feeling well this morning, so that plan was off. After class I walked back to the market from yesterday as I saw a caffe inside that Nan said was known for good food. It was packed, but I was put at a table with 3 other people and had pappa di pomodoro, which is described as tomato soup but the consistency is quite dense – delicious. I paired it with lasagna al pesto and a bottle of Moretti beer.
Then it was off to a much larger supermarket (Coop) which would have more stuff that I needed for the apartment. For example, the stove burners do not auto light, so you use matches or a small Bic lighter – and I got a larger lighter as used for a BBQ. I also got an outlet adapter which will let me plug in multiple devices so I can finally watch some TV (Roku - started watching The Adam Project). Other things bought were bread, sliced turkey and tuna for sandwiches.
Nan’s son Andrea has asked me to have an aperitivo with him, but his wife Dani is still testing positive for COVID, so we put that off.
