Nan and I drove to Chianti today to Pam and Gian Luigi’s home at Petroio, met Pam’s daughter Diane and twin 3-year old grandkids Antonio and Lya and had lunch. Afterwards it was into Pam’s car for the multi-hour drive to the Marche passing through Umbria. The landscape was beautiful along the way, and included rain and fully overcast skies. Getting to the town of Montefano we got a bit lost, with Nan and I using Google Maps to help out.

Their villa here is quite beautiful, out in the countryside and with a cold day and it not being heated in advance, it’s definitely cold. My room is a big one downstairs with a HUGE bathroom. They pretty much gutted the old farmhouse and moved the big fireplace and most rooms around. Tomorrow we will drive to Adriatic Sea which is about 25-minutes away.

It’s quite chilly here and after Pam’s dinner it was time to crash. Now, during the evening Pam had set up small electric heaters in various rooms, and we kept losing power at various times. When I went down to my room the temperature was around 63 degrees and I snuggled under the two blankets. At around midnight I woke up to see that the heater wasn’t working nor were the lights, and the thermometer on my travel clock said it was 60 degrees – I was freezing. I got up, wanted to get another blanket and put on another pair of PJs and scrunched back under the covers, not able to sleep much at all. I couldn’t go upstairs and get another blanket because in Italy you must have a key to open the door, and Pam had taken the keys inside. A really uncomfortable evening.
